Since October 2006, farmers in seven Indian villages have begun sending SMSes to the PC-based system at the back end and receive information regarding each farmer??™s produce, their fertilizer outputs, issuance of harvesting permits and getting their pay stubs, all thanks to a project by Microsoft Research??™s Technology for Emerging Markets group.
